The methodology used in this investigation was qualitative, this was determined by not
only researching the information needed to conduct the research but also the tools (Questionnaire,
interview) that were used to conduct it. The researchers were seeking to investigate and
understand the level of English in Colombia; this allowed it also to be descriptive because it helps
understand the basics of language learning in different states. The population that was being
investigated was the Adventist schools in Uraba, Antioquia, which only included third graders;
the pilot was done in Apartado Antioquia with the Adventist highschool there. The manner in
which everything was conducted was by creating tools that we could use with the students. The
Questionnaire was used to understand the ability that might have been obtained in their learning
environment, it contained 6 questions that focused on reading, understanding and interpretation,
simple questions that were based on what was being observed. The other tool was the interview
that was employed to help understand what the third graders thought about English and to
analyze whether or not they considered English an important subject to learn. The original goal
for applying these tools in the school of Apartado was for the researchers to go personally and
collect the data but because of some circumstances that arose, the tools were placed in the hands
of the teacher of third grade so it was possible to collect the research and finally see the results of
the tools.
